Scott-Farrar Home History

The Scott-Farrar Home has roots in the Peterborough community that go back ninety-nine years, to the incorporation of the Peterborough Home for the Aged in March of 1909. One of the incorporators was Helen L. Farrar. The Home was located in a small house on Vine Street until the twenties, when descendents of Helen Farrar relocated it to a large Victorian home on Elm Street, near the current address.

A major benefactor of the Home was Jennie S. Scott, who was born in 1857 and lived all her 97 years in Peterborough. Jennie Scott died in 1951 and, in her will, bequeathed one-half of her considerable estate to the Peterborough Home for the Aged with the stipulation that the old Victorian on Elm Street be demolished and a new residence constructed in its place. She further stipulated that there be a merger between the Peterborough Home for the Aged and her estate, and in 1957, the new non-profit charitable organization was incorporated as The Scott-Farrar Home.
